ANIV establishment
Study the past if you would define the future – Confucius
The Italian Association for Wind Engineering was founded in 1987 by Giuliano Augusti, with the aim of deepening and spreading knowledge in the field of Wind Engineering among professionals, technicians and researchers based in Italy.
Indeed, research was already being carried out since the late 70’s, mainly at the University of Genova, University of Florence and at Politecnico di Milano, leading to the drafting of the Italian National Research Council Guidelines on wind actions on structures (CNR 10012/85), and triggered by the studies on the Messina Straight crossing project. ANIV immediately became member of the International Association for Wind Engineering and organized its first Conference in Florence, in 1990.
In the following years Wind Engineering research spread to many other Italian Universities, bringing a significant increase in the number of people involved in the Association, which has taken a central role in the Wind Engineering community worldwide.
